This edition of our quarterly Newsletter is dedicated to Rick Grant, Design Director for Mariani Landscaping Company

He is Risen!!!

Happy Easter to you, dear partner! Yes, Jesus is RISEN! He is NOT in the grave like other religious founders or leaders. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the death and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  The Life Builders family gives God the glory for His grace and mercy over us all. We thank God for all our partners who made the past year a huge success for us. We are thrilled that the year 2011 is progressing well, thanks to all of you!

Kudos to Rick Grant

Rick Grant with Abass children

Rick is a Board Member and a strong partner whose commitment to Life Builders is unwavering. Rick’s passion to help build the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Nigeria is contagious.

About 4 years ago, Rick was moved with compassion when he heard the story of the Abass family (a former Muslim family) and their need for someone to play a fatherly role for the four boys who became fatherless in their early stage in life. Ibrahim, who is the oldest among them, was 13 years old when he assumed the position of the father of the household in order to provide the needed care for his younger brothers. For about three years now, these boys (and other children supported by Rick) have since experienced a positive turn around in their lives through the monthly financial support and letters they receive from Rick.

Early this year, Rick paid a courtesy visit to Lagos, Nigeria, to spend time with Emmanuel and Blessing, and to share his love with the seven children he sponsors—the Abass family (Mojid, Wisdom, Ramon and Ibrahim); Modupe Adedayo, Abosede Christiana and Elizabeth Olayemi. It was truly a blessing for the seven orphans, their families, as well as for Rick.

Thanks, Rick, for giving hope to these precious children and for taking a bold stand against all fears to VISIT your African children in Lagos!

Rick is planning to travel to Nigeria again this Christmas when we shall have a great Christmas party for all of our 122 sponsored children. We encourage all of our sponsors to consider spending their vacation time with their sponsored children in Lagos. Please let us know if you are interested and we will provide all necessary information and support for you. We would love to host you!!!

A New Staff Member in Lagos

We are glad to welcome to the Life Builders Family our newest staff member in Lagos - Miss Lola Tokunbo. Lola, who is a graduate of the University of Ibadan with a degree in Microbiology, has quite a bit of experience in HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs. Her passion is to see Life Builders become deeply connected with other NGOs, the public and private sectors, as well as the church in the fight against the epidemic. She is currently working on a number of project proposals that would help move the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria to the next level, especially our urgent need to secure the support of the Nigerian government.Welcome Lola!

Landscaping Training for High School Students

One of the goals of Life Builders is to help our sponsored teens become self reliant. In order to achieve this noble task, we intentionally expose them to different skills acquisition training programs. In January 2011, eight of our high school graduates, who are waiting for admission into colleges and higher institutions of learning, benefited from the specialized training session provided by Rick Grant at the Life Builders Site in Lagos. It was a great opportunity for these young people to learn what they can do to earn income while studying for their college education. Thank you Rick, for investing in the lives of these promising youths.

 Life Builders Hospital Project

Emmanuel and Blessing in front of Life Builders Clinic Project

This project which took off late last year is progressing well. We thank God for those who have donated to this project, locally and from abroad. We give thanks for all the progress we have made and hope to complete the building work by November 2011.

We still need about $180,000 for equipment and furniture.

Can you help?

Click here to donate online. You can also send gifts to Life Builders Ministries International at 736 N. Western Avenue, Suite 246, Lake Forest, Illinois 60045.

This hospital will be commissioned in November, by the grace of God. Look for news of the date and time!

Prayer Requests

Please pray for:

  • All of our sponsored children, the widows, their sponsors and all of our partners that they will not grow weary in doing good. Unfortunately, two of our sponsors recently withdrew their gifts due to economic hardship.
  • Emmanuel’s trip to the United States May 6-14. He is scheduled to attend the annual TECH conference in North Carolina, attend a board meeting and meet new and old friends. LBMI is a member of TECH—an organization that supports medical missions in the Majority World
  • A one-day HIV/AIDS conference among theological educators and seminary students on May 4th in Lagos. Emmanuel will be speaking to about 500 leaders on abstinence as a prevention strategy for HIV in Nigeria.
  • The ongoing high school HIV awareness campaign which is yielding positive results and seems to be a better way of reaching teenagers in the fight against the epidemic in Nigeria. Pray for more funding to be able to reach many more schools.
  • Our mega HIV/AIDS conference being planned for college students in Nigeria in collaboration with state governments. Pray that governments will be willing to provide the financial resources to make this happen.
  • Peace in Nigeria during post election violence and killings; protection for all—staff, widows and children.
  • God’s continued provision for our financial needs as we grow in our ministry.
  • New board members and additional partners as we continue to increase the number of responsibilities and people we serve.
  • The medical team coming from Los Angeles in November to serve the Muslim community where the Life Builders Clinic is being built. Pray for more funding so as to complete the project before the November deadline. Our God is able! Hallelujah!!!

I am so happy to be here in my homeland, using all that God has deposited in me to serve the Lord and His people. Thank you for being a great partner. May God bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and give you peace and rest from all your struggles.

Once again, Happy Easter!!!
